Texarkana Capital Campaign

Synopsis of Goals and Objectives

The main goal is to create a state-of-the-art facility for individuals with I/DD, who reside in Texarkana, Texas and its surrounding communities, to receive vocational training and partake in a cultural arts program to help develop job skills and become gainfully employed.

These opportunities have been proven catalysts in increasing quality of life, as this project will model effective vocational and cultural arts programs successfully being implemented in Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Sherman, Texas.

Evergreen will provide a facility with staff to offer employment-related training and day-habilitation services to at least 75 individuals with I/DD. This facility will allow individuals to become valued members of the community through their arts, volunteerism and work ethics.

Members of Evergreen’s Board of Directors have already voted unanimously to support Evergreen Builds and consequently, donors, key stakeholders and angel investors are being rallied who will collectively pledge to pay down the mortgage principle and the renovations costs with a goal for Evergreen to own 100% of the facility upon completion of the project, (expected completion date is June 30, 2020.)

Funding Requested

There are many possibilities to support this incredibly worthwhile project. All donations will be applied toward facility renovation costs and/or the first year of operating expenses at 1 million dollars.

All donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law and as directed by the Internal Revenue Service for organizations with nonprofit 501c-3 status.

By creating a new state-of-the-art facility it will further increase the number of people served by 25% in the Texarkana region and surrounding communities.

Data to Support the Capital Campaign

Texarkana has a population of 37,333 and there exists few offerings for employment training and arts for individuals with disabilities. This is a high-mission project, as it will meet the needs of those served by Evergreen and the Texarkana community.

The majority of adults with I/DD are either unemployed or underemployed, despite their ability, desire, and willingness to work in the community. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics regularly reports that the percentage of working-age people with disabilities in the labor force is about one-third that of persons with no disability.

On average, workers with disabilities face significant gaps in pay and compensation, compared to workers with no disability.

Texarkana is in desperate need of this facility so that Evergreen will be the catalyst that reverses this disparity.

Evaluation Plan and Expected Outcomes

The evaluation plan and the expected outcome for program results will not be realized until after the building renovation is completed and the program has been in operation for at least one year.

Evergreen will collect census and vocational training data for each attendee and record progress weekly. The data will be used to help secure community employment for the individuals served based on their progress and attendance. The expected outcome will be realized when the census reaches 75 + and when 50 of the vocational center attendees are employed and are receiving ongoing vocational training and supports to help them maintain their new careers.
